Staffordshire Farmhouse
After more than 25 years in the same family home our client came to us in need of a dramatic rethink of this Staffordshire farmhouse to fully renovate, redesign and create a showpiece kitchen extension with a talking point wine cellar.
The Brief
A longstanding family home of 25 years plus this Staffordshire farmhouse was in much need of an update and a layout rethink.
Along with reimagining the landscaped gardens the original outdated look of the house centred around a tired family kitchen plus a glass conservatory.
Many areas and various small rooms had organically outgrown their purpose and now a poor reflection of the family image. A radical rethink of the layout and room purpose was very much in need.
Italian handcrafted kitchen island
kitchen extension
We needed to celebrate this foodie-family’s love of cooking by relocating the kitchen and creating this show-stopping space. It centres around the incredible tailor-made Officine Gullo cooking island range and extractor finished in RAL 7031 blue-grey satin with satin nickel brass accents. Hand made in Florence it is very much the Rolls Royce for connoisseurs of cooking to cater for any competence right up to top-level chef.

DAY LIVING KITCHEN WITH VIEWS
The original location was what is now the corridor leading to the downstairs WC and opening out to the reveal of the newly constructed extension purpose built for a day living and spectacular kitchen.
Located in the properties newly constructed extension, the open plan kitchen and lounge area flows on from the main house. We incorporated traditional elements that run throughout the rest of the home to create fluidity from area to area as well as adding a modern twist.
Displaying your Premiere Cru’s
Walk-in Wine Cellar
At the rear of the dining area eyes are drawn to the spectacular vast crittall doors housing choice wines in spectacular display – which is teasingly glimpsed at from the rear of the passing corridor.
The purpose-built display wine cellar is fully temperature controlled to house and showpiece display the very best of the owner’s wine and alcohol collections.

Perfect Dining Accompaniment
As well as the necessary climate controlled atmosphere there is a wealth of craftsmanship and indulgent materials such as leather surfaces and dark woods blending with antique brass finishes along with intricate gauzes to give this room a visual opulence that lifts it from mere function to a focal point within the dining area. We also allow a tantalisingly glimpse via the approach corridor to the rear.
Lighting plays with the liquids creating colour glows and up shadows highlighting the brasses adding to the moody atmosphere.
Diner Distractions
The dining area portrays a mix of more contemporary look and feel yet maintains some traditional elements. The head of the table has their back to the large alcove windows whilst facing down towards the Wine Cellar. To the left through vast wood-clad wall divides the day-living-kitchen brings more light so we can afford a more cosy ambience.
This space a show-stopping large crystal rectangular chandelier (see details below) overhanging the dark wood dining table which is perfect for entertaining. Electric blue accents in the art-mirror and upholstered dining chairs which adds a burst of colour to the scheme.

First impressions count
Reinvented entrance
This welcoming vestibule with deep dark blue velvet seating an eye-catching chandelier and hidden shoe storage is a far cry from the finished and now expanded welcome area shown here. We knew we needed to create the right first impression to the main day-to-day entrance at the side of the house.
We draw the eye using the same flooring with metal edged trim through to the centre of the house, with divided glass doors for heating practicality.
BEFORE SHOTS
As you can see from the Before shots, we needed to rethink this as a more stylish open space to wow.
It was originally greeting all with a depressingly narrow corridor. Immediately to the right a utility overwhelmed with a mess of ill-fitting boilers, loose shoes and coats and a mismatch of flooring styles and materials.
Bespoke hidden shoe and coat storage
This side entrance hall now has a wide and long view cutting across the main entrance towards the kitchen (just out of site) and beyond. We separated the seated reception by using glass crittall doors allowing an expanse of light to flood the fuller width of these reception rooms and hall ways.
The exquisite full wall of bespoke cabinetry with aged metal work, secretly stores away shoes and coats (you would hardly know these are push panels to deep cupboard shelving). With further visual distractions of open display alcoves for sculptures to add that touch of visual indulgence.
Work in comfort
Your Home Office
If you are at home and working, maximum comfort and luxury touches help to set the right tone for your ultimate study.
This room incorporates a bespoke desk and large feature cabinet wall with integrated storage to the base and open display shelving to the top with ambient lighting.
We kept a neutral masculine yet warmer colour palette to the study by introducing inlay and leather panels to the grey, open-grain fitted furniture and suede upholstery to add more detail textures.
A feature brass Colt desk lamp by Bert Frank adds gravitas and is available from our sister company UBER Interiors.
Day-Living
The lighter palette of the day-living space which sits adjacent to the kitchen has a more relaxed feel with a large, yet comfortable seating area basked in large ceiling-to-floor dressed windows to the side.
With a loose sofa arrangement, occasional chairs and cluster coffee tables centred around an Art Deco marble stepped fireplace which is flanked by foreboding yet intriguing deep-sectioned walk through sections. They allow intriguing glimpses of a darker mood in the beyond dining room and wine cellar spying passed the dark oak divides.
A cosy secluded space
Sitting Room
When the country weather turns fierce or more private space is required the retreat of the formal sitting room offers a log burning stove and some original farmhouse features such as these formidable soft-arched sash windows.
With a full rear wall of fitted cabinetry and display shelves we incorporate double artwork set afloat of eglomise mirror backs. All display coving carefully lighting choice treasures and accessories.
Two low-level marble-effect coffee tables are central offering convenience to the seated guests.
Whether you need a quiet moment with the glow of a fire, discussion with guests, or a TV catchup with loved ones, the elegant deep teal sofa and contrasting cushions add eclectic elegance to soften and add a welcome comfort practicality to the more formal area of the house.
The bedroom suite
Master Bedroom
We designed the master suite to have a calm, neutral base palette with soft creams and taupe’s, incorporating colour and texture through cushions and accessories.Featuring an upholstered wall and headboard which provides a beautiful focal point to the room with subtle bedside and lighting for ambience.
Her Dressing Display section
A warmer colour palette was incorporated in her dressing room, with satin eucalyptus veneer to the cabinetry with inlaid leather and feature wallpaper.
To the side of the area is a favourably lit glass display cabinetry for treasured pieces along with an occasional chair and storage…
Her dressing storage area
… whereas to the right hand side of Her space, the glass-top drawer island for smaller items and accessories takes central stage around purpose-built clothing and shoe storage wardrobes.
A place for everything.
His dressing room
Whereas to the right of the Master Bedroom His seperate dressing room has a darker tone, with contrasting matt and high gloss veneers. Geometric leather patterned inlays with turned brass handles add a tactile luxury to the cabinet doors whilst the full height mirror panels make the space feel larger.
The ensuite bathroom leads off the side corner and is tranquil haven on neutral taupes using large-format ceramics and marble.
Updated formal front entrance
Elegant Entrance
Dissecting the preferred side entrance pathway, the formal front-of-house main entrance needed a revamp.
Whilst maintaining the property’s existing in-situ staircase we incorporated a beautiful marble flooring with dark tone edging, restored cornicing and skirting details and accessorised with an occasional chair, side table with flanking wall lights from Porta Romana and oversized dramatic original artwork.
To enhance the staircase further we added a beautiful low hanging chandelier which cascades from the first to the ground floor punctuating at a circular showpiece table.
Changes from the outside
Exterior Landscaping & Extension
The new kitchen extension we designed composes classical architecture with artisan craftsmanship to the stone detailing which sets the property apart yet allows it to sit comfortably with the original farmhouse and other material present in the immediate locale.
Floor-to-ceiling bronzed casement window detailing was incorporated as well as a sweeping resin-bound gravel driveway flanked by stone cobbles which sets the tone for the entrance of the home.
To the immediate rear garden area, we relevelled the various sloping elements and introduced a formal garden comprise of mixed mature beds, kitchen and herb gardens, sculpted topiary of oversized rocks. The now manicured lawns and statement water features allow for a preferential focal view from the house as well as access to the helipad.
