Interior Designer Tips & Tricks

The top interior designer tips and tricks from our designers that help you create luxury design schemes for your home interiors.

Our Designers Have The Knowledge

It’s said there’s a world of difference between a room designed by a professional interior designer and one executed by a home decorator. From balancing colour schemes to hanging artwork, planning lighting and even positioning curtains, designers have a box of tricks that can turn an average scheme into a fabulous space. We have spoken to our in house designers for the top tips you can easily apply to your homes interiors, resulting in the most impactful, luxury scheme.

Invest in a headboard

To give your bedroom that ultimate feel of luxury and sophistication, incorporate a large upholstered headboard.

Through doing this you will achieve an elegant hotel-esque feel to your space. Not only do upholstered headboards add an air of opulence, they are more practical than your standard wooden bed frame. Providing a comfortable backrest to sit up and lean back on.

Rugs are the ultimate way to draw an interior design scheme together, however if you go too small your rug will look lost and your scheme will look flat.

Ideally, a rug should be big enough so some, if not all of your furniture can sit comfortably. In a dining area, you should be able to sit at the dining table with all four of your chairs feet on the rug.

layer soft textures
Texture is key to creating a successful design scheme, especially if you’re working with a neutral colour palette.

To keep a room interesting, incorporate different tactile materials throughout the space, from soft woollen throws to silky cushions or textured wallpaper to curtains with intricate leading edges.

balance bathroom lighting

One rule to always follow with bathroom lighting is to never hang a bathroom fixture above the mirror. Instead, install lighting fixtures on either side of the mirror as they’ll light your face evenly and frame you in your most flattering light. Placing downlighting around the sides of the room, rather than in the middle, will also help avoid shadows.

Go large with wall art

When it comes to art, it’s very much a case of the bigger the better. You can also achieve a similar look by clustering smaller framed pictures into a gallery wall, but nothing compares to an oversized piece of artwork that grabs your attention the moment you step into a room.

add atmosphere with mood lighting

Mood lighting can instantly create the right atmosphere. Dimmer switches give you the power to use the same bulb as either general lighting, so installing them in every room will instantly boost the versatility of your lighting scheme.

Lamps are ideal for creating a cosy glow at night and wall lights will also help add to your rooms overall ambience. Niches with LED strips to shelving and cabinetry is also a great way to change the ambience of a room and add  an air of luxury to a design scheme.
