Ancoats Townhouse

A swanky, new build, modern city centre townhouse in the thriving hub of Ancoats, Manchester.

The Brief

The brief was to turn this one storey building which originally had the footprint of a double garage space into a five storey city centre town house. Making sure we utilised every inch of the space within this property. As well as designing luxury furniture and fittings for the home.

Large glass crittall doors were incorporated to make the space feel larger as you are able to see through room to room as well as it allowing light through to different spaces, especially the staircase which is located towards the back of the property so there is no natural light able to get through to that space.

Due to this property being located in Ancoats, Manchester (which used to be part of the textile industry) we wanted the fabrics to be tactile and use more woven materials to pay homage to the locations history.

Design Challenges

From the original architect plans through to the final proposed look for the master suite. This project came with it’s own design challenges. The main being the limited space, as the footprint of the property was the size of a double garage space.

Our client wanted to build up from the one-story plot to create a city centre residential town house. Building vertically on a double garage footprint meant that we had very limited space on each floor, so it was crucial to get the space planning just right to ensure we utilised every aspect. Along with maximising the layout, the rooms also needed to function as well as they looked aesthetically so that was in the forefront of our minds throughout the design process.

MASTER SUITE

Originally two bedrooms were proposed for this floor making this a four bedroom property. However we put forward the idea of dedicating this floor to being a master suite to give this home a more luxurious feel as well as give the property a great selling and rental point.

PRIVATE TERRACE

One of the main things we we pointed out to our client was the fact that there aren’t many properties of this type in the centre of Manchester that boast their own private roof top terraces. It would add considerable value to the property – should they ever want to rent or sell.
